This morning we rise. This mourning we rise. We rise into, we sink into. We emerge, we submerge. There is the mourning after the action, there is the morning that leads to the action.

During this conversation with Chloë Bass, we will share the daily practices of choosing to wake up the morning after. How this waking materializes and internalizes is reflected in daily movements, private actions, and art for sharing.

Following the Miller ICA’s Get Out The Vote exhibition, as well as the collective energy that place emphasis on voting as an act of both survival and civic duty we will gather in the wake of the election. As this is being written we don’t know the results, but we know we need strategies and each other for the mornings after.

Chloë Bass is a multiform conceptual artist working in performance, situation, conversation, publication, and installation. Her work uses daily life as a site of deep research to address scales of intimacy: where patterns hold and break as group sizes expand. She began her work with a focus on the individual (The Bureau of Self-Recognition, 2011 – 2013), has recently concluded a study of pairs (The Book of Everyday Instruction, 2015 – 2017), and will continue to scale up gradually until she’s working at the scale of the metropolis. She is currently working on Obligation To Others Holds Me in My Place (2018 – 2022), an investigation of intimacy at the scale of immediate families.
