Music as part of Sue Abramson’s Uprooted Installation

During the opening reception of Transcendental Arrangements:109 Annual AAP Exhibition and Saturday afternoons from August 5 th – September 2 nd several musicians will perform short pieces in response to Sue Abramson’s Uprooted gallery installation. The musicians are Drew Collins (bass), Theresa Seguritan Abalos (flute) and Bridget Nance (oboe). The performance schedule follows.

Musician's Bios

Bridget Nance is an oboist from Rochester, NY. She is currently a senior studying Oboe Performance under Cynthia DeAlmeida at Carnegie Mellon University and pursuing a double major in Cognitive Neuroscience. Ms. Nance has performed on oboe and english horn with the Pittsburgh Symphony and soloed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra alongside her parents, Shannon and Wesley Nance. She is an active member of the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic, and recently served as principal oboe on major programs such as Beethoven 7, Mahler 9, and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. In past summers, she has attended the Masterworks Summer Music Festival and Orford Musique, studying with Dr. Reid Messich and Erin Hannigan. Ms. Nance has performed in masterclasses with Cynthia DeAlmeida, Kyle Mustain, and Corbin Stair. She enjoys playing oboe and english horn in the Pittsburgh community and has performed with various local choirs and ensembles.

Theresa Seguritan Abalos is a Filipina-American improviser and collaborative flutist with the Pittsburgh Sound Preserve. She collaborates with spoken word artists, beat makers, dancers, and visual artists. 

Drew Collins joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as a Ross Fellow in September 2023 for a two-year fellowship. He finished the first year of his Masters in Double Bass Performance at Carnegie Mellon University, studying under Micah Howard. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and reared in Columbus, Ohio, Collins began playing double bass in fourth grade in elementary school. By the sixth grade, he also joined the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra and by eighth grade, the Urban Strings Columbus Youth Orchestra until he finished high school. Drew Collins spent a summer abroad and multiple summers at Interlochen Center for the Arts. He attended the Cleveland Institute of Music for his undergraduate education, studying under Derek Zadinsky. Drew Collins is a passionate electric bass player as well, collaborating with many different musicians. He has worked in free improv, jazz, funk, gospel, and psychedelic rock.
