Death, mourning and ritual are at the heart of Passage (2001), a recent single screen work by Iranian-born artist Shirin Neshat, with music by Philip Glass. Neshat developed Passage inspired by readings of apocalyptic texts and the brutality of Israeli-Palestinian television images. Shirin Neshat’s split-screen video installations, photographs, and films have received worldwide acclaim and were included in many prominent international exhibitions.
